Matte Black Impala Flames on Dark Grey Impala Sedan – Customer Gallery Feature

impala grey sedan with matte black impala flames on driver side

Some cars just seem like they were made for a particular graphic. This dark grey Chevrolet Impala sedan is a perfect example. Our customer wanted something that would respect the clean, modern lines of the car but still add personality. Their choice: the Impala Flames vinyl cut decal in matte black Oracal 651.

The finished look is subtle at first glance, then impossible to ignore once the light hits it. The ghosted flame silhouette runs down the side of the sedan and feels like it belongs there from the factory.

Why This Design Works So Well on the Impala

The Impala has a long, flowing side profile, which makes it ideal for long vinyl graphics. The Impala Flames design mirrors that motion perfectly—starting with the running impala graphic near the front and stretching into sweeping flames toward the rear door.

  • Body lines match the artwork: The curve of the decal follows the doors and rocker line, so it looks integrated, not “stuck on.”
  • Matte on gloss contrast: Matte black Oracal 651 over dark grey paint creates that slick “shadow” effect—visible in the sun, understated in the shade.
  • Length that fills the side: The 3–6 ft size range is ideal for modern Impalas, giving you coverage from just behind the front wheel toward the rear without crowding door handles or trim.

Matte Black Oracal 651 – Clean, Durable and Easy to Live With

For this install, the customer chose Oracal 651 matte black, which has become a favorite for “stealth” graphics like this.

  • Automotive-grade film: Oracal 651 is a high-performance calendared vinyl designed for outdoor use on vehicles.
  • Long-term durability: With proper care, you can expect years of fade-resistant color and strong adhesion.
  • Easy to clean: Matte vinyl wipes down just like the rest of your paint—no special products needed.

If you prefer a louder look, you can choose other Oracal 651 colors on the product page, but this customer’s matte black choice really shows how powerful a subtle flame design can be.

Installation: A Factory-Looking Finish at Home

This Impala owner installed the flames at home using standard tools: masking tape, a tape measure and a squeegee. The key is taking time with layout and alignment before you ever peel the backing.

  1. Measure your space: Decide where you want the impala head to start (usually just behind the front wheel arch) and where the trailing flames should end.
  2. Test-fit with tape: Use masking tape along the top edge of the decal as a hinge. Step back, check the angle with the body line, and adjust until it looks perfect.
  3. Apply and squeegee: Starting from the center, work outward with firm, overlapping strokes to remove air and make sure the vinyl bonds evenly.

Thinking About Flames for Your Own Impala?

If you drive an Impala and want something that looks custom but still classy, this design is a great starting point:

  • Choose a length that matches your doors and side profile.
  • Go with matte black for a “ghosted” effect, or a brighter color if you want more contrast.
  • Install on both sides for a balanced, pro-finished look.

We love how this customer’s dark grey Impala turned out—sporty, refined and very true to the Impala name. It’s the kind of upgrade that makes people look twice without screaming for attention.
